Tantalus Gardens (aka 6404 Wellington) going to October 8th Public Hearing
At the council meeting that happened on Monday Sept 9, Tantalus Gardens passed first reading (5-1 council members in favour as Councillor Gambioli recused herself) and will go to a public hearing on Tuesday, October 8th. It was passed despite many Councillors having concerns around aspects of the proposal. You can watch the meeting here if you're interested.
The Planning Department presented ad-hoc unscientific data from the Developer who claims to have walked 50 days and over 300 hours, knocked on 800 doors and talked to over 500 people - 217 respondents expressed support. Council accepted this ad-hoc data as fact and voted accordingly. But nearly 400 people want to save the community space.
It seems that letters sent previously to Mayor and Council aren't cumulative. Staff cited having received 100 letters for the current proposal and only 2 against. So they didn't count the 100+ letters against that they received last year against the development.

Please read and sign the petition if you:
- feel that there isn't enough information, yet, to make a clear decision about the proposed development.
- feel that the current proposal is too large for the four lots / neighbourhood
- believe the Local Area Plan needs to be completed before this development is approved.
- have concerns about the developer - a local man has offered to save the site from rezoning
- have concerns about the trees that will be destroyed to support this development.
- have questions that aren't being answered
- feel that something needs to be done to improve the lots and the church as they currently exist
- believe that community space must be preserved as part of whatever development is done on those lots.
Write: Even if you have previously sent letters in with suggestions of concern, changes or opposition, you need to write or send them again to MayorandCouncil@westvancouver.ca. They matter!
